McCain’s October Surprise?

By Robert Schlesinger

Is there any question that John McCain will try to pull some sort of ham-handed October surprise?

Whether his rabid defense of Georgia, tapping Sarah Palin or his campaign “suspension” last week, McCain’s campaign has lurched from stunt to stunt in an effort to stop Barack Obama. (The latest gimmick–the suspension–bombed, as McCain went from being tied in Gallup’s daily tracking poll to down by eight in today’s. Eight. The trend lines for McCain are getting ugly.)

So could this be the October surprise? Or at least the next surprise? As TPM points out, the Brit press should be taken with a grain of salt, but … would it surprise anyone?
