Today’s New York Times devotes a lengthy piece to John McCain’s evolution as a Senate player. McCain pal Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was certainly in a chatty mood when he talked to the reporter and offers up several choice quotes.
On McCain’s yen for birdwatching at his Sedona, Ariz., spread: “If you took all the people at Gitmo, put them in the cabin for a weekend and made them listen to John talk about the birds, they would all spill their guts,” Mr. Graham said.
The Times goes on to note:
Mr. McCain’s friends say the senator has always been drawn toward conflict. On Senate breaks, one of his favorite pastimes is official travel to war zones. … Mr. Graham said, imitating Mr. McCain’s husky, hurried voice, “If there is a ’500 people killed in government protests’ article in the paper, John will always call me up: ‘We need to go there! Sounds like it’s interesting!’”
And we can all just calm down about McCain and his “legendary” hot temper.
“The man will run across the street to get in a good fight,” Graham said.
